Get your popcorn ready as We’re about to spill the tea on our absolute favorite Rom-Coms!

With back-to-school season right around the corner & many of us in dire need of some comic relief -with a romantic twist- here are our top 10 favorite high-school rom-coms!

10 Things I Hate About You (1999)

Rom-coms

Now this is the classic of rom-coms. If you haven’t already watched it before, you 1000% should go and watch it after you’ve read this piece through!

The movie follows Heath Ledger’s character Patrick Verona, as he tries to win a bet by dating Julia Stile’s character Kat Straford who takes on a more feminist and mature outlook in the movie, which makes dating seem unnecessary for her. The movie’s side characters are also extremely entertaining and play well into the plot. Something you should go back to visit.

You can watch it now on Disney+.

She’s The Man (2006)

Inspired by a Shakespeare play, She’s The Man follows Amanda Bynes’ character Viola as she struggles to overcome gender stereotypes. The movie follows Viola as she attempts to disguise herself as her brother to play on the football team since the girls’ football team was dissolved. A comedy with a pinch of social justice sounds just like the perfect movie to me!

She’s All That (1999)

Mother of all makeover remedies in movies, She’s All That, also likely rings a bell because of Addison Rae’s & Kourtney Kardashian’s He’s All That reboot back in 2021.

The original, however, follows a similar plot to that of 10 Things I Hate About You, where there’s a dare to date someone. Except this time round the guy is the popular one and the girl is the nerdy one. On the whole, it’s a lot of fun, but the ideologies are somewhat outdated, so if you’re looking for a mega cringe-fest, opt for He’s All That instead 😉

Grease (1978)

Hold on tight, because this movie is about to unlock all the secrets to becoming the ultimate rom-com expert! Yes, you heard it right. If you’re craving that rom-com knowledge, I’m telling you, it’s time to sprint, not stroll, to watch and absorb every bit of this film.

Streaming on Netflix, this movie is to this day the blueprint for all rom-com movies. While you will wonder how the cast is meant to be high schoolers when we all know them to be otherwise, is beside the point. The point is to buckle up for some old-fashioned rom-com fun.

The Princess Diaries (2001)

Now I know what you’re thinking, The Princess Diaries isn’t a right-off-the-bat rom-com & you’re right it isn’t, but Mia & Michael? I-c-o-n-i-c.

While the movie might seem to take a jab at the day-to-day average-looking teenage female, it’s still one of Hathaway’s most iconic movies to date & maybe, just maybe there’s a reboot in the making, so you wanna keep yourself informed for when the next Princess Diary edition pulls a barbie!!

The Edge Of Seventeen (2016)

An arguably dark movie I’m aware. A generally described coming-of-age movie, I’m also aware. However, this particular movie as it navigates through the difficulties of adolescence highlights the importance of love, in particular platonic love.

We think that’s the rom-comiest of rom-coms, don’t you?

Clueless (1995)

Calling all fashion enthusiasts and hopeless romantics! This movie is an absolute must-watch for you.

Cher, the reigning queen of high school popularity. She’s got it all – the looks, the charm, and the perfect wardrobe however coping with high school and adolescence isn’t easy. Follow Cher, to learn about her journey through high school and her search for love.

Get ready to swoon and laugh with our top 10 favorite high school rom-coms just in time for back-to-school season! From the classic “10 Things I Hate About You” to the hilarious  “She’s The Man,” these movies will have you hooked.
