Anticipating the Silver Screen: Our Most Awaited Movies of 2024

We’re sure many of you are reeling from the excitement of “Barbenheimer” and aren’t sure how to fill the void those movies left, but we know! As excited as we were for ‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’, there are so many more movies to look forward to… so many movies to fill the “Barbenheimer” shaped hole in our hearts.


So what movies are we expecting in the next few months?

  1. Wonka (2023)

Timothee Chalamet reignites the role of Willy Wonka in a movie about the chocolatier’s life before the events of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and how he became the leading man of the chocolate industry. It’s coming out in December of this year, the start of a new season of movies.

2. Wicked Part 1 (2024)

Ariana Grande makes her grand entrance into the world of musical- fantasy through the theatrical phenomenon “WICKED”. The highly anticipated flick was initially scheduled to come out on Christmas Day. However, it was announced in March that the date was being brought forward to November 27, 2023. It takes a spin on the classic story of the Wizard of Oz but is told from the perspective of Grande’s character: the Wicked Witch of the West.

3. Kung Fu Panda (2024)

Our childhood comes back to life with the long-awaited addition to the Kung Fu Panda movies. While we don’t know much about the upcoming movie, we know that Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, Jackie Chan and the rest of the cast will be returning to the franchise on a new adventure surrounding Po. Kung Fu Pands 4 hits the big screen on March 8. 2024.

3. Deadpool 3 (2024)

After five years of waiting, Ryan Reynolds makes his much-anticipated return as Deadpool in the upcoming trequal. This is a trequal you do not want to miss as we see Deadpool integrate into the MCU! Marvel has to release a trailer as the movie is scheduled to release on May 3, 2024, but we are all excited for this exciting part of MCU: Phase Five!

4. *Untitled* Venom 3 (2024)

Another grand addition to reviving Marvel makes its way to the screen next year with a new Venom movie! Venom 3 will be the fifth movie in the Spider-Man Universe and acts as a sequel to Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021) which hid a cliffhanger in the post-credit scene (No spoilers ;)). The film is scheduled to release on July 12, 2024. However, many expect the date to be postponed due to the current Writers Guild of America strike.

5. Elio (2024)

Marvel is not the only one releasing anticipated movies, Pixar is staging the scene too! Elio is a new original film that is coming out next year and is set to be released exclusively on March 1, 2024. The film centres around an 11-year-old child named ‘Elio’ who can’t fit in, so instead, he befriend aliens and becomes the ambassador for Earth. While this film is targeted towards the younger ages, in true Pixar fashion, it is a film and a message for everyone.

6. Despicable Me 4 (2024)

Does it smell like bananas? Probably! That’s because Gru and his minions are coming back to the big screen next summer in the fourth instalment of the Despicable Me series. Set to release on July 3, 2024, expect to hear all the crew, from Steve Carell, Jason Segel, Pierre Coffin and Miranda Cosgrove! The only question we have is: are we dressing up in suits again?

7. Snow White (2024)

Walt Disney Studios is coming back with another live-action remake: Snow White! While she may seem like a forgotten princess, this movie is a huge deal for Disney as the original 1937 animation was the first full-length animated film EVER and the first Disney animated film. Rachel Zegler takes the crown as the titular role of Snow White, against Gal Gadot, who plays the Evil Queen. While the film has elicited criticism about the casting of non-little people for the Seven Dwarves, there has been critical praise and excitement to see Rachel Zegler as the famed princess. The movie is scheduled to release on March 22, 2024.

8. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024)

Warner Bros. announces a new addition to the Godzilla and King King Franchise. Following the success of the Godzilla v Kong (2021), the sequal was quickly announced and many more are being considered. The movie is scheduled to be relased on March 15, 2024

9. Beetlejuice 2 (2024)

It has been 35 years since the first Beetlejuice movie and it is safe to say that this sequal is a long time coming. The film, which revolves around a deceased couple who, as ghosts, haunt their former home. It is a fantasy horror comedy for everyone! Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder and Catherione O’Hara are expected to reprise their original roles, but some new faces will be joinig the world of Beetlejuce such as Jenna Ortega! The long awaited sequal will be released on September 6, 2023– plenty of time to prepare some Beetlejuice inspired Halloween costumes.

10. The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim (2024)

Yes, you read that right: a new Lord of the Rings movie in 2024. After almost 20 years since the last Lord of the Rings movie, a new addition to the world of J. R. R. Tolkien makes its way to the silver screen. The movie acts as a prequal set 183 years before the events of The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002), and is expected to reignite the dyibng flames in the hearts of the fans that have long awaited more from the series. The prequal is set to be released on April 12, 2024.

11. Captain America: Brave New World (2024)

The first Capitain America movie after Chris Evan’s trilogy ended in 2016, Brave New World is the new Captain’s chance to bring to role to life again. Anthony Mackie reprises his role as Capitain America in this new addition to Phase Five of the MCU. Th movie is scheduled to release Juily 26, 2024

There’s a lot to be looking forward this coming movie season, from Marvel to Disney to Pixar and more. We have sequals, new originals and ways to replace the ‘Barbenheimer excitement’.
