Summer has ended, but that doesn’t mean there are no more films to be excited for! Autumn has arrived, and with it comes a cinematic showdown like no other. As the leaves change colors and the temperature cools down, the film industry is heating up with an array of highly-anticipated releases. Moviegoers are in for a treat as studios compete for our attention, offering a diverse range of genres and stories and we’re here to tell you everything you should be keeping a lookout for.

- After Everything
After Everything, the long awaited fourth sequel in the After series finally hit the big screen. Many die hard fans have been waiting to see what happens to Tessa and Hardin after a heartbreaking ending to After Ever Happy (2022) and their questions are being answers. As this may be the final installment in the series, we are expecting to need some tissues as we say goodbye.
2. The Nun II
Another sequel to another smash hit film, The Nun II comes five years after the original film, which garnered huge reviews. Set in 1956 France, the film continues on from the events at the Saint Cartha’s monastery, this sequel is perfect for all horror fanatics. The Nun series acts as a prequel to the The Conjuring series and is the perfect watch for anyone who wants to add some adrenaline to their plans.
3. A Haunting in Venice
The perfect film for anyone who loves mystery–A Haunting in Venice is loosely based on Agatha Christie’s Hallowe’en Party and brings back Kenneth Branagh as the beloved detective Poirot. The movie adds to the cinematic universe of Agatha Christie and revolves around the murder f a guest at a seance. With a combination of horror and mystery, this film is the ideal weekend plan for anyone!
4. Spy Kids: Armageddon
The series of our childhood is back! Like most of us, you might have grown up watching the Spy Kids series and have been craving some of that nostalgia. The nostalgia is coming in waves as the newest installment of the Spy Kids universe hit Netflix on September 22nd, 2023. The film revolves around a dangerous computer virus that ends up forcing the kids having to save the world. While we won’t be seeing many of the characters we know and love, it does take act as a continuity to the series. Additionally, the director, Robert Rodriguez confirmed that Netflix plans on bringing out even more Spy Kids movies, and we should be keeping an eye out for legacy characters.
What films to expect
1. Five Nights at Freddy’s (27 October, 2023)
The game that haunts our upbringing is coming to life– no pun intended. Our most beloved FNAF characters will be creeping up the silver screen just before Halloween. The movie echoes the original plot of the game where a security works the night shift of the once-successful Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza and finds that the animatronics come to life at night and move to kill. We could also be expecting film adaptations of the second and third games, so be ready for a whole lot of fear!
2. Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (October 13 [obviously], 2023)
Taylor Swift has dominated social media and the entertainment industry all year– now she will be dominating cinemas. The highly rated Eras Tour has been on most people must see list but not all of us have had the chance to secure tickets. Similar to the original tour, the concert film has everyone excited to be able to immerse themselves in the world and legacy of Taylor Swift. We only have one question– are you… Ready For It?
3. The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (November 17, 2023)
That’s right, a new Hunger Games movie in 2023! The movie is the fifth installment to the Hunger Games series and acts as a prequel, set 64 years before the first installation. Its plot follows a young Coriolanus Snow and the events that eventually lead him on the path to becoming the tyrannical leader of Panem. I don’t know about you, but it feels like 2012 is right around the corner.
4. The Marvels (November 10, 2023)
Another addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe is coming your way before the end of the year. While Marvel hasn’t revealed too much information about the film yet, we know that it is a sequel to Captain Marvel (2019) and continues the story line of Phase 5 of the MCU. Brie Larson, who plays the titular Captain Marvel, has said that the film would dive deeper into her character and her “complexities”.
