3 lessons I’ve learned from my therapist:

Two years ago I decided that I was finally ready to start my healing journey. I took the decision on my own and booked myself a therapy session. It has been a long time since the first session ever, and It has been an eye opener to say the least. So, I wanted to share with everyone lessons that I’ve learned from my therapist.

1. You’re worth it.
The second session I sat down with my therapist and told her that I feel worthless, I told her I’m not doing anything in my life and that I’m basically useless. She asked me what does a person do to become worth it and I said they do anything; they work, they study, they socialize, but other than that, they’re worthless. And that was the first lesson I learnt from my therapist. You don’t have to do something to be worth it. We are all worth it even if our biggest achievement is that we got out of bed today.

2. It’s okay to be happy
A couple of sessions ago I had good news that I wanted to share with her. And I did exactly that, but then I begun to tell her about some small things that are bothering me. She then told me that we need to stop and acknowledge my happy emotions as well as sad ones. It’s totally okay to be happy and forget about your struggles even for a small moment.

3. You’re emotions are ALWAYS valid.

If you’re sad then you’re sad. If someone annoyed you then it did. You don’t have to justify your feelings or explain yourself. Believe what you feel and deal with it. No one should ever tell you how to feel about something. Always remember that if you’re sad, then you’re sad!

Therapy has been the greatest decision I’ve ever made, and I can’t wait to continue my healing journey and learn more about myself everyday! So, take this as your sign that starting your journey may not be as scary as you think.
