Spotify has unveiled the most streamed Khaleeji artists and tracks over the past six months in Saudi Arabia.
Leading the top five Khaleeji artists are Abdul Majeed Abdullah, Ayed, Rashed Al-Majed, Majid Almohandis, and Rabeh Saqer. The top five Khaleeji tracks are “Rdy” by Ayed, “Ya Ibn Al Awadim” by Abdul Majeed Abdullah, “Kel Ahebek” by Fouad Abdulwahed, “Tejene (2)” by Ayed, and “Kareh Nafsi” by Ayed.
Growing Popularity Among Spotify Younger Listeners
Khaleeji music, known for its emotional and relatable lyrics, is especially popular among the youth in Saudi Arabia. Over the past six months, it has been the most streamed local genre. Notably, 44% of Khaleeji streams come from 18-24 year-olds.
Gen Z Revives Nostalgic Khaleeji Tunes
Older Khaleeji music has surged in popularity among Gen Z. Over the past five years, streams of nostalgic tracks by Gen Z have grown by 5,500%, doubling in 2023 alone. In 2024, 46% of streams of nostalgic Khaleeji tracks come from Gen Z listeners.
From Spotify’s “Khaleeji Decades” playlists, the most listened-to tracks are “Bala Mi’ad” by Khaled Abdul Rahman (80s), “Bakaya Jorooh” by Khaled Abdul Rahman (90s), “Yama Hawelt” by Abdul Majeed Abdullah (2000s), and “Men Methlek” by Abdul Majeed Abdullah, Ahmed Al Harmi, and Anwar Al Mushairi (2010s).
